N'Dambi was born Chonita
Gilbert in
Dallas, Texas, U.S.A.
She took up playing the piano at an early age writing her first song at the age of 13.
N'Dambi first emerged on the soul scene as a background vocalist for Erykah Badu.
She later contributed to
her 1997
ground-breaking album 'Baduizm' on part of the vocal production chores as well as lending her vocal
talents to the
proceedings.
On Eryka's live album,
'Eryka Badu
Live', she was the featured vocalist on her tune 'Next Lifetime'.
N'Dambi's solo debut
'Little Girl Lost
Blues' followed in 1999 with 'What's Wrong With You' being popular amongst U.K. soul
fans.
In 2000, she recorded
with Eryka Badu
again on her 'Mama's Gun outing co-writing one tune entitled 'Hey Sugah'.
In 2001, she followed the success of her first album with 'Tunin' Up And Cosignin', a set recorded 'live' in the studio.
The album featured the popular dancer, 'Day Dreamer'.
2006 saw a return with the funk-led (Japan Release) album "A Weird Kind Of Wonderful".
Pink Elephant is the fourth album Released in 2009
